Archive for the ‘graphic design’ Category
www.hotschottdesign.com is live
I transfered the Hot Schott Design web site to it’s domain last night. The site needs a few tweaks and more content, but I am happy with the design. I decided to go with individual galleries for the portfolio pages rather than the Flash gallery I raved about in an earlier post. The Flash/XML gallery just took too long to load and there are too many cross platform and cross browser issues for me to consider it completely stable.
The site can be seen here.

Let me put this out in the open, I am color blind. Yes, I am a painter, yes, I am a graphic designer, but there is more to color than what you see, and I have a good understanding of what you don’t see.
Today I am using red on a website, here some thoughts about it:
Color is a magical element that gives feeling and emotion to art, design, and advertising. By understanding color meaning, (or the psychology of color) you can choose the right color to support and emphasize your design for the client and the patrons.
Red for example:
Red can symbolize many things, from blood to love. Basically red symbolizes strong emotions.
Red can symbolize:
- Energy-strength
passion
eroticism
cheerfulness
courage
fire
career goals
fast action
lust, desire
vibrancy
driving forces
risk
fame
love
survival
war
revolution
danger
aggression
strength
power
determination
emotional intensity
sex
provoking
dynamic
stimulating
courage
bravery
good-tasting
force
leadership
drama
excitement
speed
heat
warmth
violence
attention
generosity
romance
The meaning of colors varies depending on one’s culture, race, gender, and even age.
Red brings text and images to the foreground. You can use it to stimulate people to make quick decisions; it is a perfect color for ‘Buy Now’ or ‘Click Here’ buttons on Internet banners and websites. Red makes us pay attention and catches our eye immediately so use reds on items that need to grab attention. Red has the highest impact for action.
A recent study brought to light that women prefer red and men prefer blue. This would suggest that you should use blue for male-oriented ads and red in advertising to women.
